About

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

I was hot-shot in my 20's, with some cool inventions, a loft downtown and an IPO under my belt.

But before I turned 30 I hit the wall, and hit it HARD.

I had trouble sleeping, couldn't get a girlfriend, and often during the day I'd find myself staring blankly at the computer screen.

My teams had more and more problems working with me.  I even started drinking at my desk during the day, partly to shock me awake and partly to numb the pain.  I was becoming less and less effective.

That once-bright star was starting to dim and my career was in serious danger.

The final wakeup call came when my mom was suddenly diagnosed with AML and given less than six months to live.  I couldn't imagine living with myself if she passed with our relationship as broken as it was.

I was so far gone I literally had to blow up my life in order to rebuild it.  So in 2000 I left tech and spent the next eight years studying (and picking up some certifications in) psychology, touch therapy, Zen Buddhism and coaching.

Now I'm married, have two great kids, and take them to visit my mom every weekend.

And instead of being driven to disrupt markets I wake up each day motivated to help leaders avoid the traps so they can enjoy fulfilled lives and successful ventures.

Methodology & Instruments

First, we start with an intake to identify where you're at, what your resources are, what you want to achieve and any known obstacles or dangers along the way.

Second, we use a psychogenic instrument such as DISC or FEBI to identify general patterns and possible blind spots.  If appropriate 360-degree interviews are employed to get feedback from your team and partners.

Third, we prioritize your goals, develop a plan and identify metrics for progress.

Fourth, we have sessions (typically via video chat) at least every other week but possibly more frequently.  During these sessions we'll discuss your business as well as your personal challenges, and use techniques such as Strategic Intervention and Neuro-Linguistic Programming to overcome them.

Finally,  measurable progress is checked monthly with longer reviews every three months.

What to Expect

My approach is what I call "Yin / Yang".  That is, some clients need more centeredness and balance while others need more energizing and expansion; some clients need more support while others need more "truth to power".

I'll question, advise, reflect, challenge, cajole, joke and anything else necessary to help you breakthrough where you are and get where you want to be.

What exactly we spend time on comes out of what you want and where you're at.

Early-stage founders often need more help around business issues like product and branding.

Later-stage founders often need more help around personal skills like leadership and stress management.

And nearly everyone wants help around managing their relationship during the grind.
